    Ford Y block Cylinder head bolts

    Ford Y block early to 56 and some 56 with two different bolt lengths.

    caution many Ford Y block head have been swapped out over the years so double check before ordering.

    in 56 the a change to 3 different lengths was made. The three bolts in the center under the rocker shaft are the same, The two bolts on the end of each head are longer about a 1/4 inch

    inspect heads before ordering bolt to sure you get the correct ones other wise engine damage could happen

    <p>I am not certain whether I have an early to 56 engine/heads. The engine was replace in 1967 prior to my knowledge of the car. Are there casting numbers or something that will help with this issue?</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Kent</p>

    well the easy way is to pull out the bolts and compare if you have 3 types or two , or you can look at the cylinder head bolt bosses to see if the three under the rockers are milled to the same height as the two outer ones , or if the head is off the engine measure down from the top of the boss to the bottom of the head , there is 1/4 inch difference on the later head and they are the same on the early heads
